Spouse, Civil Partner or Unmarried Partner


The spouses, civil partners or unmarried partners of British citizens or persons settled in the UK may apply for to join them in the UK.

Parent


The overseas parent of a British child or a child settled in the UK may apply to live with them in the UK.

Child


An overseas child of a British citizen or a person settled in the UK may apply to stay with that parent.

Adult dependant relative


An overseas adult relative of a British citizen or person settled in the UK may apply for immigration permission if they require long-term care from their relative in the UK and cannot obtain that care in their home country.

Other work routes

Representatives of an overseas business


Employees of overseas businesses may apply for immigration permission to enter the UK as either a sole representative of an overseas business or an employee of an overseas newspaper, news agency or broadcasting organisation.

Domestic worker in a private household


Visas for domestic workers in private households enable individuals to apply for permission to visit the UK with their employers so they may continue working in their domestic capacity.

UK Ancestry


The UK ancestry route enables Commonwealth citizens who have at least one grandparent born in the UK to come to work, study and settle in the UK.

Turkish Worker/Businessperson


The Turkish Businessperson visa enables Turkish nationals to come to the UK to either start a new enterprise or come help run an established business. The Turkish Worker visa allows Turkish nationals with at least one year of legal employment in the UK to switch into the route and extend their stay.

Scale-up


The Scale-up route is for talented individuals recruited by a UK Scale-up sponsor who have the skills needed to enable the Scale-up business to continue growing.

Youth Mobility Scheme (YMS)

The Skilled Worker route enables licensed employers to sponsor nationals from outside the UK for skilled positions that cannot be filled from within the resident labour force.

Global Business Mobility


The Global Business Mobility routes are available to overseas businesses seeking to establish a UK subsidiary or temporarily transfer specialised employees to the UK through a client, supplier or their own UK office.

T2 Minister of Religion


T2 Minister of Religion enables licensed employers to sponsor non-UK nationals so that they may undertake religious work within faith communities in the UK.

International Sportsperson

International Sportsperson

What is the International Sportsperson route?


The International Sportsperson route enables licensed sports organisations to sponsor top tier athletes and coaches from overseas to work in the UK.

Key features

  • Work: additional part-time employment, voluntary work and study is permitted subject to some restrictions.
  • Dependants: the spouse or partner and/or children of International Sportsperson migrants may join or remain with them in UK as dependants. Generally, these individuals may work and study in the UK subject to certain restrictions and all applicable domestic laws and regulations.
  • Switching: migrants will now be able to switch from within the UK into this route from most other UK immigration routes.
  • Settlement: there is no longer an upper limit on how long individuals can stay in the UK under this category. After five years of continuous residence in the UK, individuals may qualify to apply for settlement.
