Illegal working penalties to triple in 2024

The Government has announced a significant increase to civil penalty fines for firms employing workers without the right to work in the UK.
First breach per employee – from £15,000 to £45,000
Repeat breaches (on separate occasions) per employee – from £20,000 to £60,000
These fee increases will commence in early 2024, though the Home Office has yet to announce an official implementation date. Firms should ensure that all current right to work check procedures are followed to avoid issuance of a civil penalty.
