Zeena Luchowa quoted in the Law Society Gazette

26 June 2025

Zeena Luchowa (Partner) has been quoted by the Law Society Gazette in an article entitled ‘In depth: foreign lawyers in immigration limbo’. This article, published 23 June, focussed on the potential doubling of the UK residence period required for settlement, as set out in the government’s recent immigration white paper, and the impact of this change on UK-based foreign lawyers.

Zeena commented:

‘Unfortunately it is not clear whether this extension will apply retrospectively. This creates uncertainty for individuals and also for sponsors, as well as potential unfairness, for example, for those very close to reaching the five-year qualifying period when the new measures take effect.

‘The white paper has created a degree of ambiguity and uncertainty. As lawyers, it has created challenges in being able to advise clients as to the best course of action while being cautious not to pre-empt a particular position.’
