Zeena Luchowa quoted in The Guardian on Government's significant proposed changes to asylum and returns policy

Tuesday 18 November 2025

Zeena Luchowa (Partner) has been quoted by The Guardian in an article explaining the Government’s announcement of changes to asylum and returns policy. The article, published on Monday 17 November 2025, discusses proposals to:

  • end permanent protection for refugees;
  • escalate the removal of families, including children, whose asylum claims have been refused;
  • remove the legal requirement to support destitute asylum seekers; and
  • introduce a new definition of ‘family’ to curb claims from extended families.

In her capacity as the new Chair of the Law Society Immigration Law committee, Zeena commented:

‘These changes seem perverse, unreasonable and punitive on individuals who are genuinely seeking asylum.’
