Next steps for Begum case

10 February 2020

After Shamima Begum lost the first stage of her appeal against the government’s decision to deprive her of British citizenship, Zeena Luchowa talked to ITV News to discuss the next steps for Ms Begum’s case.

Zeena explained that Ms Begum now has three options – firstly, she could continue in her appeal. Secondly, she could ask for a stay of her appeal until she is in a better position to take part in the future. Thirdly, if she fails to comply with any directions in the appeal and her appeal is struck out, she could request to reinstate her appeal at a later date if she can demonstrate the circumstances which caused her to fail to comply were outside of her control.
