Natasha Chell has written for The Law Society Gazette on the significant expansion of the UK’s right to work regime from 1 October 2026, extending potential liability beyond direct employment to certain subcontractors, agency workers and other flexible labour arrangements within supply chains.
Businesses should review their workforce models, supplier contracts and compliance systems to ensure appropriate right-to-work checks and oversight, particularly given the potential for substantial civil penalties, criminal liability and sponsor licence consequences.
