Committee calls for more 'diplomatic' policy on irregularimmigration

5 November 2019

In an article for LexisNexis Malini Skandachanmugarasan discussed the recent report released by the House of Commons Foreign Affairs Committee which calls on the government to reassess its approach to irregular migration.

Malini contends that the government needs ‘to reconsider its policies, which tend to focus on limiting
migration instead of addressing the wider, often interlinked factors leading to irregular migration’. While ‘the UK has remained largely isolated from the different migrant crises in recent years, there is still a significant impact and a need to address the harsh realities experienced by thousands of people all over the world escaping from conflict, human rights violations and abuse’.
