Phillipe Sands KC Literary Lounge in support of Refugees at Home
On Wednesday 18 January, Professor Philippe Sands KC will discuss his new book The Last Colony: A Tale of Exile, Justice and Britain’s Colonial Legacy. Taking us on a disturbing journey across international law, The Last Colony illuminates the continuing horrors of colonial rule, the devastating impact of Britain’s racist grip on its last colony in Africa, and the struggle for justice in the face of a crime against humanity. It is a tale about the making of modern international law and one woman’s fight for justice, a courtroom drama and a personal journey that ends with a historic ruling.
Philippe Sands KC is a barrister at 11 King’s Bench Walk, and Professor of Laws and Director of the Centre on International Courts and Tribunals at University College London. A specialist in international law, Philippe appears as counsel before many international courts and tribunals, including the International Court of Justice, the European Court of Human Rights, and the International Criminal Court. He is the author of several books on international law, having received the 2016 Baillie Gifford Prize.
A raffle on the night will benefit a charity of the author’s choice, Refugees at Home – a UK charity which connects those with a spare room in their home to refugees and asylum seekers in need of somewhere to stay.
