Literary Lounge with Sathnam Sanghera in support of Rethink Mental Illness
Friday 15 March 2024
Our Literary Lounge with Sathnam Sanghera will take place on Thursday 25 April, where he will be discussing his latest book – Empireworld: How British Imperialism Has Shaped the Globe.
Bestselling author and journalist Sathnam explores the global legacy of the British Empire and the ways it continues to influence economics, politics, and culture around the world.
The Boy With The Topknot: A Memoir of Love, Secrets and Lies in Wolverhampton was adapted for BBC Two and became an international award-winning movie based on Sathnam that was described as a touching, humorous, and emotional rite-of-passage story. It was shortlisted for the Costa Book Awards along with his novel Marriage Material. Empireland was longlisted for the Baillie Gifford Prize for Non-Fiction, was named a Book of the Year at the National Book Awards of 2022, and inspired both the Channel 4 series Empire State of Mind and Sanghera’s children’s book about the British Empire Stolen History.
Professor Helen Carr, a historian and author, will interview Sathnam Sanghera to discuss his book Empireworld: How British Imperialism Has Shaped the Globe.
A raffle on the evening will benefit a charity of the author’s choice. Rethink Mental Illness believe a better life is possible for millions of people seriously affected by mental illness.
