LDI will be speaking at The 66th UIA Annual Congress

The 66th Union Internationale des Avocats (UIA) Annual Congress takes place in Dakar, Senegal from Wednesday 26 October to Sunday 30 October 2022.

Laura Devine and Matthew Wills will be speaking about Human Rights on Thursday 27 October at 9.30am.
Equality – The Universal Declaration of Human Rights states that “all humans beings are born free and equal in dignity and rights”. The right to be treated as equal and without discrimination on the grounds of gender, race, language, religion, political or other opinions, national or social origin, association with a national minority, property, birth, or other status is not always protected or guaranteed in some jurisdictions. The Commission will examine breaches of equality from various perspectives, such as gender, sexual orientation, access to justice, immigration, race, and prison conditions.

Matthew Wills will also be speaking about Immigration and Nationality Law / International Estate Planning on Friday 28 October at 9.30am.
Coordination of Immigration and Estate Planning Advice – Best Practices During the Current Global Crises – The 2020s started with two tumultuous events: the Covid-19 pandemic and a European conflict that threatens to engulf the world. The pandemic has disrupted and altered migratory patterns for over two years, and catapulted remote work to the forefront of global mobility. In addition to severely disturbing the global oil and gas markets, in displacing millions of people from Eastern Europe, the war in Ukraine has created a global refugee crisis that may take years to resolve.
In the midst of these crises, immigration and estate planning lawyers have had to pivot quickly to meet the needs of their clients, both paying and pro bono. Given the major shifts in global events over the past three years, this panel will discuss best practices for coordinating immigration and estate planning advice, focusing on (1) family separation and reunification, (2) residency and citizenship planning, (3) executive assignments, and (4) wealth planning.
