Overhaul of the Tier 2 category for skilled migrant workers

The Migration Advisory Committee (MAC) has been commissioned by the government to conduct a review of Tier 2 of the Points Based System and has launched a call for evidence.

The MAC is to advise on the redesign of the Tier 2 category to address the government's concerns about the rising number of migrants in that route and reliance on them to fill shortages. In particular the MAC has been asked to review the following proposals:

If implemented, the proposed changes could have a significant impact on UK businesses that currently Tier 2 to sponsor the skilled workers they need. It is therefore important that the MAC is made aware of the views of business and how such changes would affect your business.

The MAC's consultation period closes on 24 September 2015 and it is due to report in December 2015.
